Policies and Fees
Once you have decided to contact me, please leave your name, phone number, and the best time for me to return your call. We will have a 10-15 minutes telephone discussion to briefly talk about what the issues of concern are and whether a formal evaluation would be helpful.
The First Visit
Please have a seat in the waiting room and I will come out to greet you. During the session, you will be asked about various aspects of your life such as your passions, interests, hobbies. I will also discuss your functioning at home, relations with family, performance at school/work, as well as your sleep and eating habits. We will talk about your emotions, feelings, behavior, and how they have affected your life.

Medication Policy
You will be provided with enough medication to last until the next session, so refill requests in between sessions will not be necessary. If you miss an appointment, you will be given enough medication until the next rescheduled appointment, which should be within 1-2 weeks. This is meant to assure safe and effective use of medication.
Insurance
I am considered an "out-of-network" physician for PPO insurance plans. I can provide you with a statement that can be sent to your insurance company for reimbursement of a portion of your fee. Please contact your insurance company for details on benefits for an "out of network" provider. The reason I have decided not to accept insurance is my strong belief that your treatment should be based on what is best given your individual circumstances and needs, not on an insurance company's restrictions made upon the time and frequency I spend on your care. Again, I request all prospective clients to contact their insurance company regarding my "out-of-network status" to have any potential insurance reimbursement questions resolved ahead of time.
Length of Treatment
For chronic disorders such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, medication treatment will most often last many years.
For most other disorders or issues, the length of medication treatment will likely be between 6-12 months.
The frequency of therapy should be once a week; in some cases, it can be every other week. Successful therapy can take anywhere between a few months to years depending on various aspects of the individual case.
At the start of medication or at changes of medication or dosages, the frequency of visits will be approximately every two weeks.
Contact in Between Sessions
For established patients, I am on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For non-urgent matters, your call will be returned by the next business day. For urgent issues, your call will be transferred to my cell phone which I will do my best to return within 90 minutes. If you are experiencing a true emergency, please contact 911 as well. You are also welcome to e-mail me with non-urgent questions/scheduling questions. However, clinical discussions or treatment are usually not discussed via email. Please be aware that e-mail is often not a secure or confidential medium to communicate.
